Writing a story about the throne speech/provincial budget or the new housing announcement? We have experts available:

What will make BC more affordable?

The provincial government’s throne speech yesterday outlined actions government will take over the next few months to deliver more middle-class homes faster, help working families and small businesses with costs, strengthen public health care and services, and build a cleaner economy. VIU Finance Professor Dr. Charles Schell is happy to share some thoughts on measures that could move the needle on making life more affordable – and what won’t.

Affordable housing expert

The provincial and federal governments are spending billions in financing to have thousands of rental homes built on under-used public lands in BC, which would then be made available to middle-income earners. The goal is to address the ongoing affordable housing crisis. Kaeley Wiseman of Wiser Projects and a VIU Master of Community Planning faculty member is one of BC’s foremost experts in non-profit housing. She’s available to share her thoughts on the opportunities this presents, how it addresses barriers in delivery currently being experienced and other areas of opportunity for the province to consider regarding the rapid delivery of non-market housing.
